Why No One Talks About Trends Anymore

The Evolution of Suspenders. Suspender belts can be traced back to the eighteenth century at which time they were used primarily to hold the pants/ trousers up. They were made as strips of and were attached to the trousers through buttonholes. Not concealing the suspenders under clothes were considered to be outright indecency in the olden days, and that is why they wore them under clothes. It is in the nineteenth century that braces (modern day suspenders) were introduced. It was Albert Thurston who first designed these belts. Moreover, braces were attached by using leather loops. The suspenders come in various designs. These designs are classified according to the method of attachment to pants or by the shape formed at the back. For instance the earliest designs mainly formed an H at the back by joining the braces. There has been an evolution in the designs of the suspenders from those forming an H, to an X and later to a Y. The second type of categorization was dependent according to their attachment to the trousers and the earliest designs were attached using buttons. Later, leather loops were used to make an attachment to the trousers using buttonholes and finally, suspenders were attached to trousers by use of metal clasps. It is worth noting that even the materials used to make them have also changed. The manufacturers have been able to use different kinds of materials over time, they began with ribbons and later to woven wool. This material was also known as box cloth. However, the use of the suspenders was always one despite various manufacturers using different materials. It was only high waist trousers that were considered fashionable then, and therefore belts were not typical. The trousers were high-waist that belts could not be used; only braces were suitable.
